Hyderabad Karnataka Liberation Day

While the country got Independence on August 15-1947, Hyderabad-Karnataka Region, Telangana in Andhra Pradesh and Bombay-Karnataka got independence on this day in 1948 since the then ruler Nizam refused to merge this region into the free India. He continued to rule this areas even after independence.
The then Union Home Minister Sardar Vallaibhai Patel warned Nizam of military action unless he merged the region in free India.After seeing the Army stepping in the region, Nizam agreed and merged the region in India. Participating in the celebration, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said that the government is committed to develop the Hyderabad-Karnataka area, which remained most backward region in the State.
He lauded the sacrifice made by the freedom fighters whose struggle got the area liberated from the clutches of tyrant Nizam. The Chief Minister felicitated some of the freedom fighters on the occasion.
State BJP General Secretary Sashil Namoshi, Mlc deplored that even after 60 years of Liberation, the region has the ‘backward’tag. He pointed out that while Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh amended Article 371 in order to give importance to locals in employment and other benefits, the Hyderabad-Karnataka region is yet to get the Article 371 amended.
