Bidar losing new IAF project*AIR-TO-GROUND RANGE

Bidar losing new IAF project “AIR-TO-GROUND RANGE” !!!

Ministry oAFS_Bidarf Defense puts off Air Force project in Bidar,
It seems the Ministry of Defense wants to scrap plans of setting up an air-to-ground range to train pilots in weapon use and target practice at Nirna village(near Mannaekhelli) in Bidar district.

In 1998-99, the Indian Air Force had expressed its intent to start the range and selected a land between the Bidar Air Force station and the pilot training centre in Hyderabad.

However, in a recent letter to the district administration, the Defence Estate office has said that it does not need the land. No reasons have been cited.

The project has been hanging fire for over 16 years. The range is supposed to come up on over 2,000 acres of land, of which 700 acres is forestland. The land was selected by a ground survey and aerial surveillance in 1999. The State government issued no-objection certificates to acquire and handover 1,200 acres of land.

Though the district administration gave a no-objection certificate and began preparing to acquire the land for the project, the Union government was yet to give consent to the proposal to handover forestland to the IAF.

Now, senior IAF officials said there are two reasons for the change in plans. “Air traffic between Bidar and Hyderabad has increased, forcing us to shift some of our activities to Kalaikunda in West Bengal. Secondly, the delay in starting the project has also nudged us to drop the idea,” a senior IAF officer told The Hindu .
